I decided to post a message here too, because so far I'm very satisfied of what the MedHelp provides. Though I do not expect too much from your answer. I have been suuffering from prostatitis for 5 years, I'm 27 years old and my prostate is like a broken engine. It won't function anymore in order. Question: could it be taken out, I mean definitely ?...
Any new approaches in curing the prostatitis ? When will the Viagra (drug for impotency) be on the market ? Do you expect this drug to work as effective as it showed to be during the tests ??
  Thank you

Dear Davidoff
Thank you for your question
I must admit the urological community is challenged by the chronic prostatitis syndrome.   Removing the prostate can be done technically, but is a treatment of last resort for this condition. As you  may know prostatitis has been divided by their causes: bacterial prostatitis (acute and chronic), nonbacterial prostatitis, and prostadynia.  It is important to separate these disease entities as they respond to different treatments.   Recently, several authors have found abnormal parameters in some prostadynia patients when evaluated with flurourodynamics.  This urodynamic evaluation  tests the bladder filling and emptying  while monitoring the bladder with Xray and pressure measurements.   If a severe blockage can be documented, urologist have advocated incision of the bladder neck and prostate.  These patients usually do not have pain before surgery  but urinary hesitancy or weak stream by history.  You may ask your urologist  if he/ she thinks that you might benefit from undergoing this test.
Viagra, is a new  oral medication for erectile dysfunction (impotence) which may be available as early as April 1998.  It has been touted as being 80% effective.  (National Urology meeting Dec. 5-7 Chicago IL ) .
