  anything to help matters ? Is there something I should apply ( ice ?
  heat ?) Will Aspirin or Advil etc.. help heal things ?
  Any help is appreciated.

I think he has the same problem.  Warm /Heat might be good.  I would definitely keep your appointment with your doctor.
