I have had kidney stones for the past three years.  I have just been told that I have Medullary sponge kidneys.  What does this mean?  I would appreciate any information you could give me.
Thank you.
Medullary Sponge Kidney is a rare inherited disorder characterized by the abnormal widening (dilatation) of the tubular structures within the kidneys (tubules) that collect urine. The initial symptoms of this disorder may include excessive urination (polyuria) and/or burning and pain while urinating. Calcium stones may form within the kidneys (nephrolithiasis) and blood may be present in the urine (hematuria). The exact cause of Medullary Sponge Kidney is not known.
