: This is the same type of question that was submitted back in February.  I'm 29 and have a curved penis (curves down like a bananna), I suppose it has been this way all my life.  No scares or lumps as in some of the reading I have seen regarding Peyronie's disease.  Is it possible that this is caused by wearing briefs and jeans all my life?  Maybe I "wear" my penis differently than most, my penis hangs down all the time (covering testicles), I'm thinking that when an erection occurs the penis is limited to the tightness of jeans or underwear and therefore has never had the room to be straight.  Could this be possible?  What types of treatment are available?  Would stretching exercises help?  This complicates sex and is very frustrating.  Please help- thanks.
Dear Phil
Thanks for your question.
Penile curvature due to Peyronnies results from trauma ( frank vs. occult) to the penis which results in deposition of scar tissue which  does not let the corporeal body lengthen when erect.  The scar tethers the erection.  It would be difficult to palpate a plaque ( a deposition of scar tissue) in your case under the urethra.  The urethra itself can tether the penis especially in hypospadias malformation ( the urethra does not exit at the penis tip but below.) This bend in this direction is called  chordee.   Surgery can straighten the penis but you may have to sacrifice a centimeter or so of length depending on the amount of curvature.   Decreased sensation and impotence are rare complications of penile surgery.   We have recently corrected a 70 degree bend to the side with excellent cosmetic and functional results.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling  (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians notes and lab test results that you  may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.  Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition.
Sincerely;

Dear Phil,
Besides the scar tissue of Peyronie's disease, longstanding penile curvature may be explained by a congenital (from the time of birth) condition known as corporal disproportion.  The paired erectile bodies in the penis, corpora cavernosa, are of different lengths.
Treatments are surgical in nature.  Stretching exercises have not been demonstrated to help with corporal disproportion.  Tight clothing has not been shown as a cause for this condition.
Sincerely, HFHS M.D.-CK
