I am 28 years old and have had pronounced penis curvature since birth, or at least for as long as I can remember.  The curve is upward, and has not noticeably changed with time, and is enough to make full intercourse difficult. My erections are generally not painful, although erections soon after ejaculation are uncomfortable.  I have read a little on this forum about chordee.  Could this be my problem?  Is it treatable?  This is causing me a lot of anguish and embarrasment - I hope you can advise.  Thank you.

Dear Alex,
Curvature of the penis since birth may be related to tethering of the skin and underlying tissue on the underside of the penis (ventral chordee).  This is sometimes accompanied by an abnormal location of the urethral opening (meatus). The penis may also curve to one side or another since birth secondary to corporal disproportion (one of the erectile tubes is longer than the other) .  Curvature developing later on in life secondary to scar like lesions is Peyronie's disease.
If your symptoms are severe, these problems can be corrected surgically by a urologist.  Risks of the procedure include numbness and problems with erections.

More individualized care is available through our department at the Henry Ford Hospital  and its suburban locations (I-800-653-6568).

Thank you for your response.  I am aware of the condition of ventral chordee, with or without hypospadias.  However, the curvature is upward, not downward.  Is chordee strictly ventral, or could similar skin tethering etc occur on the dorsal side?  Or is my problem something different?  Thanks again.
