Hi,
My boyfriend is 42 and very healthy and active.  Lately when he ejaculates, he gets a terrible pain in his left testicle.  Also pain in lower abdomen and some lower back pain.  This has happened only 3 times in about a month, but I am really concerned.  First time was about 4 weeks ago, and it was very bad and lasted 3 days and then disappeared.  Second time was two weeks later and lasted 2-3 days.  Happened again on Friday, but the pain diminshied to a tolerable pain and lasted a couple days again.  He said it does hurt somewhat when he urinates after the pain starts.  When it first happens he says the pain is like getting kicked in the groin and it almost knocks the wind out of him.  Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?  I'm very worried, but he is to embarrassed to go to the doctor.  His excuse is that it goes away eventually, but I know this isnt normal.  Could it be cancer or another serious problem?  Also he had blood in his urine about 6 months ago, and his doc told him it was nothing to be concerned about and that it happens sometimes to runners.  Any responses would be appreciated.
I am not the doctor, so keep checking back for their response.
Pain can be a symptom of testicular cancer, but it would be impossible to tell you if that is what is bothering your boyfriend over the internet. I think it would be best for him to go and see a urologist. This doctor can evaluate him and decide if this pain is being caused by cancer, a hernia, an infection, or something else. he should not be experiencing pain down there, and he should definitely have it looked at. The most serious problem associated with testicular pain is torsion. This is a condition where the testicle twists and cuts off its blood supply. This would be extremely painful, and is a surgical emergency. If he doesn't want to lose his testicle, then common sense tells me that he should see a doctor.
Regarding the embarassment. if this pain was in his eyeball, would he see a doctor? I think he would. The fact that the pain is "down there" is no excuse for ingoring it.
Good Luck
Doug
