Dear Ken,
There are over a hundred causes for blood in the urine.  Fortunately, a visit to a urologist can sort through the possible causes in an organized fashion.  A urinanalysis will document the blood in urine (hematuria).  If no infection is seen with the hematuria, an excretory urogram (IVP) x-ray test, a urine test for cancer cells (urine cytology), and a cystoscopy (examination of the internal lower urinary tract with a lighted telescope) should be performed.  We suggest a prompt visit to your clinician.
More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its suburban campuses at  (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need. Please bring any physicians notes and lab test results that you may be able to obtain. These will help us greatly.
This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.  Please consult your physician for diagnostic and treatment options pertaining to your specific medical condition.
Sincerely Yours;
HFHS M.D.-CK
