I've been to the Dr's a couple of times for UTI's.  The last time I had a bladder infection I could clearly see blood in my urine.  I went to the Dr. and he did a urine test which showed a high red blood count and strep cells.  I am a 31 year old female who smoked for 2 years.  The Dr. had me take an IVP which turned out ok for my kidneys.  However, they said there was a cloudy image on the xray that needed further tests.  So, I was then referred to a urologist.  At my appt, he took a urine sample and said that I did not have the infection anymore.  After looking at my xrays he went on to say that he thinks the cloudy section is just my uterus sitting on my bladder but he wants to do a cystoscopy to rule out the possibility of tumors.  I really do not want to go through this procedure because I'm worried it will be painful.  Can you give me any suggestions.

Sharla
I am a 46 year old with bladder cancer. DONT WAIT!
early bladder cancer is very curable. It is VERY dangerous however if it
gets invasive into the muscle.
I have had numerous cystoscopies.  They are not fun, but they are tolerable.
I understand they are worse for men than women since a mans urethera is longer
and the scope has to fit past the prostate.  They do use lots of ky jelly,
and have  a special lube with a novacain in it which they squirt into the
urethera first.  It helps.  I sing a little afterwards, and feel like i need
to pee but a couple of tyleonl. and I am fine within a few hours.
Just breathe easy, relax and let them look.  Its worth knowing.
my best to you.

Dear Sharla,
I am a 30 year old male. I have had two cystoscopies done.
They really are not that bad. Its the thought that scares us the most.
The only thing you feel is a little pressure. The procedure itself
is relatively quick and painless. Do not put it off, you will be fine.
Best of luck
Chris
