Dear Lavella,
I looked in the Physician’s Desk Reference under the possible Adverse
reactionsAllergic reactions
Allergic reactions to medication
Dermatitis, reaction to tinea
Drug allergies
Febrile/cold agglutinins
Insect bite reaction - close-up
Intradermal allergy test reactions
Positive reaction to allergen
Transfusion reaction or side effects of
SeptraSeptra
Septra ds
Septra i.v. and did find that “
serumFerritin
Serum calcium
Serum globulin electrophoresis
Serum iron
Serum ketones
Serum phosphorus
Serum progesterone
Serum serotonin level
Sodium - blood sickness like syndrome” is listed. The most common adverse side effects are gastrointestinal (nausea, vomiting, anorexia) and allergic (rash and itching). The company that makes the drug is Burroughs Wellcome, perhaps they have some information that they can give you. They must have an account of at least one case or it would not be listed as a possible adverse reaction.
In terms of prognosis I am unable to help you since I don’t have a good account of you reaction to the medication nor have I encountered a patient with a similar occurrence in my career. An infectious disease physician might have a chance of answering your question better than I can.
