Recent Diverticulum Surgery Questions

Hi There
First off Ill start with a little history.  About 7 years ago, my urine stream began to slow and actually stop midstream.  A little later I developed bladder stones.  I have had a meatonomy, 4 cystoscopes, and just about every battery of test possible.  My prostate is normal and their is no blockage.  Well none of these things worked so another cysto was done to find that I had 2 large bladder diverticulum and these were thought to be the cause of my stones and slow stream.  So on Dec 7th I had my bladder reconstructed and now is anatomically normal.

But now more problems have arisen.  I have had stones once again and just about everytime I pee I cramp over the toilet waiting for this extreme pressure in my penis to fade and then to urinate.  I have tried detrol and uraxtrol to no avail.  I was also put on pyridium plus which strangly worked for a time.  After I take a pyridium plus, the first urination is completely normal with little pain, but then after it hurts again.  I was up to 3 a day and it became ineffective, this was during one weeks time.

My doctor says my only option now is to have a urodynamic study done, which I feel won't solve anything and honostly is something I just can't go through.  I had complications getting my super pubic cathetor out so I was reopened and cystod again on the 20th.  I will not have put another cathetor in me while I strain and hurt to have this test done.

What other possible options are there?  I have a normal bladder, no blockage, and a normal prostate.  There needs to be something else out their besides this single horrible test.

Unforunately I would agree with the urodynimic study being a reasonable option for further evaluation.  With the number of procedures and cystoscopies that you have had performed, most of the anatomical abnormalities would have already been evaluated for.  These tests however, would not appropriately examine the function of the GU tract - urodynamic studies would have to be done to evaluate this.

You may want to inquire about another urological opinion - preferably one at a major academic medical center.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
