Reverse Ejaculation... is it bad... or just different?

I'm considering surgery so I can sleep through the night without going to the toilet two or three times a night...

... but, I understand I may end up with reverse ejaculation.

I'd like to hear from men who have experienced this, and what does it feel like?

I'm sure it'd different that a normal ejaculation/orgasm... but is it bad?

As I'm very sexually active (8+ orgasms per week) I am understandably concerned with how this may affect me.

Your opinions/views would be very much appreciated.

Thanking you.

Dr. Kaur, I've had an enlarged prostate since I was very young . So I take finasteride and tamsulosin which is causing my ejaculation to go to the bladder. Ive asked my primary doctor to recommended vasectomy so at least sperm won't go in there. He says there is no research that it will help. After sex I have a hard time urinating.

My boyfriend had prostate surgery in 96 and has had retrograde ejaculation since.  He still experiences orgasm, just without the ejaculation.  And let me clarify...sometimes there is ejaculation - sometimes a normal amount, sometimes just a little but most of the time none.

His trouble with the retrograde ejaculation s the mental part of feeling like he isn't completing.....for me.       I keep telling him, it's not a problem for me...less mess!  lol.   But, I also understand....he wants to *** for me, on me, in me and it just doesnt happen very often.

During intercourse, it almost never happens, but with a ******** or hand job, it will sometimes.   He almost always does experience orgasm and tells me it feels the same for him, he just wants to give me that evidence of his orgasm, even though I know when he's had one.

So, there's the other side of this for you as told to me by my amazing, very satisfying man.

Thank you for your clinical response to my question, I appreciate your description of what reverse ejaculation is....

... however, I am seeking anecdotal evidence on whether reverse ejaculation (RE) is less pleasurable than normal ejaculation which is why I asked in my initial post:

"I'd like to hear from men who have experienced this, and what does it feel like?
I'm sure it'd different that a normal ejaculation/orgasm... but is it bad? "

If you have discussed this with your patients experiencing RE, I'd be very interested in hearing what they had experienced during subsequent intimate sexual encounters.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hello,
Thanks for the clarification. It is true that laser treatment of BPE can cause reverse ejaculation and it is a very common side effects. Sometimes procedures like prostatectomy, transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP), transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT), transurethral needle ablation (TUNA), laser therapy of prostate  and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) may also cause such symptoms. There is no surety as such that these procedures won’t cause any reverse ejaculation as some people never experience it after these treatments.

It will be better to discuss this concern of yours with your urologist before going in for any such procedure. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you Dr Kaur (and G'day from Australia),

Diabetes can be ruled out. My GP has checked this.

My problem appears to be BPE, Benign Prostate Enlargement, where the prostate in my 58 year old body has been enlarging slightly over time, reducing the flow of urine through the urethra,  so that the bladder is never fully evacuated on urination... causing me to have to go to the toilet every hour or two... resulting in me having to get up at night two or three times during sleep.

I should point out that I am not currently experiencing reverse ejaculation (RE).  I was asking about it because I have read RE is a possible outcome as a result of TURP or Green Laserlight Surgery to reduce the pressure of the Prostate on the urethra.

It seems that the pleasurable sensation of an orgasm may be compromised to some extent from RE, so now I'm not sure I want to have the Laserlight Surgery if this is so.

Do you have any opinion that may make my choice easier?

Mark

Hello,
From the symptoms two possibilities need to be ruled out. The first possibility is of diabetes which can cause neuropathy of the bladder sphincter and hence retrogarde ejaculation. The second possibility is of any obstruction in the urethra which is causing obstruction to the ejaculate. My sincere advice would be to get your blood sugar levels evaluated and consult a urologist for further advice. An ultrasound testicles and penis can help in confirming the diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi, I had a bladderneck and prostate resection in 1995 at the age 30 due to problems with urinary retention and getting up numerous times at night to go to the bathroom.
I was the youngest patient in the urology ward. I was warned about retrograde ejeculation and the possibility of not being to father any more children.

After the surgery the sensation of ejeculation was cahnged as I no longer had semen expelled after ejeculation. Due to damage to the sphyncters during surgery the semen will find the way of least resistance and ends up in the bladder. The semen is than expelled during urination. The sensation of climax is somewhat deminished, but something that you will get used to.

To the surprise of my wife and I, my wife became pregnant about 11 months after my surgery and we had a healthy second daughter, giving us 2 sons and 2 daughters.

In the case of problems with fertility, semen can be retrieved from the bladder and fertilization is possible.

Around 2000 after an emergency orchiectomy as the result of an infection, I was very surprised that I was once again able to ejeculate 6 months after my surgery. The amount and force is not the same but the sensation is very much normal again. This does not happen to every patient, but the possibility is there.

If the procedure that you will have is a TURP, than there is a very small possibility that you will experience some form of ED.

Due to the fact that I was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder and neurological problems I have suffered from ED for the the last 8 to 9 years. For this I was treated with Caverject to obtain erections, which worked quite well for me since Viagra or other oral medications had no effect. Up to 2008, I enjoyed a good sex life with my wife. Due to more urological problems which have resulted in and indwelling catheter, I have not been able to have sexual activity since 2008. It is frustrating but due to constant pain, I have not had a desire for sexual intercourse. Even with that I'm still able to enjoy intimate relations without intercourse.

I hope that this will not happen to you, but it is possible to enjoy an intimate relation, even without intercourse.

All the best.

Ron
