Right Testicle Pain/Varicocele Surgery

In April of this year I had a Varicocelectomy for pain I had been experiencing since December of '98. My right testicle is still very tender to the touch with pain in my lower back. My doctor said it would be 3 months of recovery and put my on doxycycline for 1 week as a preventative measure against epidydimitis. There has been no improvement. I went for a second opinion last week, and the urologist told me the epidydimis was a little tender. He said I was fine and to just soak in a warm tub every night and to stop touching the testicle. Is this normal? I was given another month of doxycycline.
