STDs and the prostrate

I had unprotected vaginal sex with a women in 1997, within a week of being with her I had one morning when it hurt to urinate. Then the sysmpoms went away. About 2 months after that I was diagnosed with NSPB.(non specific bacterial prostisits)pain at the tip of the peinus and slight discomfort above the right testicle. This went till 2000, I thought the initial diagnosis was incorrect so I had the doc do a swab for Chylmidia, and the swab was negative. Can STDs hide in the prostrate and not show up on a swab. I heard Chylmidia is diffult to find using the swab seeing it was 3 years since the possible contact. Can STDs hide in the prostrate?. Have you ever heard of a STD ( possible co-infection) causing a false negative HIV test?

Yes, it is still possible to have an infection in the prostate despite a negative swab.

I would consider a thorough digital rectal exam to ensure the prostate isn't tender.

Prostatic abscesses can also be difficult to treat and evaluate.  Imaging the prostate can be considered - a transrectal ultrasound would be a reasonable test to consider.
