Semen Color

by Jim__0, Apr 02, 1998 12:00AM
I'm 20 years old. My semen color is yellow and there is clear jelly like globs suspended in it does this indicate an infection or someother problem going on in ones reproductive system?...

Dear Greg,
The usual semen ejaculate is usually 1.5 to 5 cc in volume containing sperm, prostatic secretions, seminal vesicle secretions, and secretions from the periurethral glands.  Freshly produced semen is a coagulum that liquefies in 5 to 25 minutes after ejaculation.  Sometimes in the process of liquefaction there may be some inconsistency in the ejaculate, part being more “jello like” and part containing a clear fluid.  There also appears to be some variation from person to person.
In reference to your specific question, I do not think that this is a worrisome condition unless you are experiencing any problems with fertility, pain with ejaculation, or testicular/epididymal pain.  However, a urologist who can examine you and possibly obtain a semen analysis would be more qualified in assessing your situation and making appropriate recommendations.

Sincerely,
HFHS M.D.-JJ
