Should I be worried about getting an infection during surgury after stopped taking antibotics for two months?

by 35andConcerned, Aug 23, 2009 05:25PM
I am 35 and have an enlarged prostate with symtoms that range from difficulty urinating, pain in groin, varicocele on right testicle (immediate family history of prostate and breast cancer).  My PCP put me on antibiotics for 10 days and referred me to a urologist.  My urologist continued the antibiotics for two months (Doxycycline 100MG twice daily) saying that there must be an infection somewhere as the cause.  He finally told me to stop taking the antibiotics and he will be doing a series of blood tests including PSA.  But, a recent MRI of my lumbar revealed two herniated discs, L4 and L5; with L5 actually ruptured.  My surgury is in 5 days to correct the herniations.  Thus, I come to my question:  With me completing two months of antibiotics today, do I need to be concerned about infections going into back surgery?

Sincerely,
35andConcerned
