HI Doctor I am a healthy 37 yr old female. To my knowledge my family has healthy kidneys. I have one uncle 67 who has kidney troubles not sure what. My parents did not have kidney issues my dad is 77. Other family members healthy. Had a CT scan done for other reasons and found what is in the report below. Of course googled it and found PKD which scares me now. Do you think I have this or do you think this is just a normal finding? I will see a uro here in town soon but wanted to try and find out some info from you - report below
There are multiple non obstructing left sided renal calculi. Largest 6mm. There is at least one ppunctate non obstructing right renal calculus. The visualized lung base is clear. Liver, spleen, pancreas and gallbladder are within normal limits. There is a small round hypodense lesion involving the lateral cortex right kidney 5mm in size. There are two or three adjacent small round hyposense lesions in the posterior cortex of the left kidney. Lesions are too small to characterize but statistically most likely represend small renal cysts. No abdominal free fluid or lymphadenopathy noted. No retroperioneal soft tissue mass noted. Bowels are within normal limits. No suspicious descructive osseous lesion identified.
I had a follow up ultra sound which showed no stones and only one kidney cyst - unlike cat scan with contrast which showed above. Thanks for your help

Simple cysts can normally be observed.
More complex cysts or cysts that are enlarging would need further imaging to ensure they aren't malignant. I would suggest an MRI as the next step.
Regarding the stone, it may pass on its own. However, if it doesn't a urology referral would be needed to remove the stone - either by lithotripsy or a surgical procedure.
These options should be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a urology referral.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
