Small hard mass

  I have a small hard mass on top of my right testicle that has been around for about 2 years.  I had a ultra sound done and the doctor has called it an epididymal cyst.  Now, I have started to get a very dull ache now and then.  Is this related and do I have to worry about this cyst becoming cancerous one day.  Any other information relevant to this subject would be greatly appriciated.  Thanks again!

Dear Bill,
Your symptoms could be related to this cyst (spermatocele) enlarging, but I would not assume that that is all that is happening. There is no known relationship between spermatoceles and cancer but something new is happening and your discomfort could well be related to something totally different.
If the problem is just the spermatocele, then you may decide to undergo its removal. This is a fairly straightforward and simple outpatient operation.
You need to see a urologist to make sure that there is nothing serious going on.
