Small lump behind head of penis - internal

I have recently developed a small lump about 1/4" behind the head of my penis. It is only noticable when not erect and there is no pain associated with it during sex or urination. I am concerned about and have seen my Doctor. My Doctor did not seem concerned about it and wishes to only watch for any change. I would like to see a Urologist.
Should I be concerned?

Dear Tyler,
A penile lesion is always the cause of concern and worry in any normal young man. There are a multitude of such lesions, and some are benign and others are malignant or pre-malignant. Of the benign variety some are simple infectious processes which in the long run could transform to malignancies if not properly evaluated and treated, yet others are generally unremarkable. The potentially malignant types, however, need aggressive treatment. Penile cancers are basically skin cancers and start with a skin lesion usually an ulcer or a raised growth on the shaft skin/foreskin. Neoplasms of the deeper tissues are distinctly uncommon. Most deeper lumps are scarring in the erectile bodies (Peyronnie’s disease).However, a visit to the urologist is definitely a good idea for peace of mind if nothing else.
