Sore Testicles, UTI, clear/watery semen

Dear MedHelp,
About a week ago I had terrible chills and a fever.  Shortly thereafter I noticed pain during urination.  By mid-week I went to my GP and had urine in my blood. I had quite a bit of discomfort in my bladder/testicle area.
My doctor gave me antibiotics for a UTI.  That night I experienced quite a bit of pain in my left testicle, and both  testicles were swollen. The next day I had an ultrasound on my kidneys and bladder, both came out clear.  The following day I still had discomfort in my testicles and went to the ER.  I had an ultrasound done on my testicles and it also came out clear.
2 days later my wife and I were fooling around.  When I ejaculated, my semen was brownish and thick.  Now 3-4 days later, my semen is clear, watery and low in volume.
My bladder is feeling better, and my urine has returned to normal color/consistency.
I have not had the urge to frequently urinate, but he amount of urine while going to the bathroom  was lower than normal, and the flow was weak.
If I did have a UTI, why were my testicles swollen and painful.  And why now is my semen discolored and low??
thanks in advance!
-Greg

p.s. I am almost 29 years old and have never had problems with my urinary tract, prostate, or testicles.

About five years ago, I had pain in my left testicle which lasted about 3 weeks.  It felt like a thorn stuck in my testicle.  Since then, I've shot clear or very watery semen.  Even my girlfriend thought it looked unusual.  I want to have kids one day, what should I do?

An update.  After about a week of no sexual activity, today my semen was still discolored (mostly red, alittle brownish too) but the consistency was alittle more like normal, but still somewhat watery/thin.

How long should it take for my semen to return to normal?  Will more frequent ejaculation help, or should I wait another week then check it again?  Does this mean I haven't beaten the infection yet?
thanks,
Greg

Dr. Veena,
One more quick question.
Today my semen had blood in it.  Last night it did not appear to have any blood in it.  The only variable is that I had just gone for a 14 mile, 1 1/2 hour mountain bike ride prior to it.
Should I have any new concerns?   Also from the info. above, should I be waiting to have sexual relations with my wife for 3-5 days between?
thanks again,
Greg

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Clear semen can occur after frequent ejaculation or after resolution of infection. Production of sperm takes about 90 days. A gap of around 3 days between ejaculations should resume to normal. In your case, I think it could be resolution of infection due to which the semen is clear.
Coming to discomfort and pain during ejaculation is a sign of prostatitis or infection to any part of the genital system namely, epididymis, testicles etc.
Hope this information helps.
Best.

Thanks for the info.  I am feeling much better compared to last week! I am still experiencing some rather odd sensations in my left testicle at times.  Its rather infrequent and not really painful, just the type of sensation when you are feeling/noticing something that you typically don't notice.
In terms of my semen, thanks for the help.  2 quick comments, b/c of my condition I had not had an ejaculation for around 5 days. (in reference to the "frequent ejaculation" part..don't know if you were just referencing a similar cause for that type of semen or a diagnosis for my particular problem)
Secondly, I did notice that my orgasm didn't have the typical sense of "release" and that it was somewhat uncomfortable/maybe slightly painful compared to normal.

Don't know if this changes your advice at all, but I know all information helps.  Again thanks for taking the time to investigate my situation some! I appreciate it much :)

Hi,
How are you? Urinary and genital tract are closely connected in males. Infection to any part of the urinary tract if left untreated can affect the rest of the parts of the urinary tract as well as genital tract. In your case, it started with chills and fever, this could be due to UTI or nephritis, then affecting the testicles called as orchitis followed by prostatitis changing the colour of semen.
Clear semen is normal and there is nothing to worry. Sometimes due to frequent ejaculation, only the secretions of the prostrate come out during ejaculation which are clear.
I would suggest that you increase the intake of fluids in your diet with inclusion of citrus fruits. Repeat urine analysis if chills, fever or burning micturition returs.
Best.
