Spermatocele symptoms

I have a septated spermatocele at the left testicle and sometimes I feel pain in this area. I had it aspirated about six months ago but it recurred, so my doctor told me that the only permanent solution is to remove it surgically. How  is this surgery performed and what type of anesthesia is commonly used?. I'd rather prefer local or regional anesthesia if possible.

Hi,

Spermatocelectomy is typically performed on an outpatient basis, with either regional or general anesthesia via a transscrotal approach.  There is the risks of infertility, as well as the more common complications of hematoma, infection, swelling, recurrence, and pain. Postoperatively,  scrotal support and ice packs to the dressing is commonly used. Oral analgesics is needed for adequate postoperative pain relief. Patients are usually instructed to keep the dressing in place, to allow the wound to dry for 48 hours, and to avoid strenuous activity for 2 weeks. You can read more about the procedure through this link: http://www.emedicine.com/MED/topic2880.htm

Take care and keep us posted.
