Stage II renal failure

Stage II renal failure

I have been diagnosed with Stage II renal failure (which I understand is mild).  I have been taking Lasix and Lisinopril to reduce the strain on the renal artery and the edema that sometimes results.  I was recently diagnosed w/metaplastic carcinoma of the left breast and am undergoing an aggressive regimen to treat this aggressive cancer.  My last visit to my nephrologist showed no apparent ill effects to the kidney after 3 chemo txs.  My question is based on a new ICD 9 code that was listed on the lab sheet for my next follow-up.  What is "disorder of magnesium metabolism" and is it related to the renal failure or possibly a result of the chemo?  I have enough disorders, conditions and diseases right now to fill a medical encyclopedia, I really don't need another one to worry about.  Thank you for your time.

I am sorry to hear of the problems that you are encountering. You certainly do not need any more!
The ICD9 code is a reimbursement code that your physician provides when billing insurance. Any aspect of your problem is a reasonable heading under which to bill.  I assume that your magnesium level is abnormal. Lasix does eliminate magnesium from your body and this may be what is being addressed. I am not sure whether your chemotherapy figures into this or not. I think that you deserve an explanation from the nephrologist. Give this physician a call.
Good luck with it all!
