TESTICAL RISEN AFTER INJURY

by student2psych, Dec 30, 2004 12:00AM
I am a 28 year old male who has not been sexually active for about a year. I had an injury to my testical (left one) about two weeks ago.  There is no swelling, pain, discharge, or lumps.  Erections, Ejaculation, and urination are normal.  My problem is that after I hit my testical (work injury), it moved higher than the other.  This happened about two days after the accident (the next day I went away for the weekend, and was quite active)  I spoke to my doctor about this, on the phone, and he told me that this  is normal after an injury, as long as there is no swelling, pain or lumps or discharge. He told me to take it easy, take asprin, try to stay off my feet, and wear an athletic supporter for comfort.  He also said that sometimes it takes awhile to go down into place, and the testical will move up to protect itself. When I am in a hot bath (which is very helpful) laying or sitting it feels fine, and is down in place.  When I stand up it moves up, higher than the other.  He told me about the possibility for hernia, and will check for this if I'm not better in a while.  There is no pain, I can just "feel" my testical when I stand sometimes. Could you shed some light on this for me, and what else can I do to help this problem?  According to my doctor, this is common, but I have not heard of this before. In the beginning, it was more painful, no it is just a discomfort.  I also work with a nurse and she also told me that this is "normal" and it could take a few weeks to settle.  She also said that if it does move down, it is unlikely that it is torsion, and not twisted testical.  Thanks for the help!

It is possible that this is a normal reaction to the injury.  Tough to say without examining you.

The things that you want to worry about are torsion or a hernia.  I would consider a scrotal ultrasound to evaluate for the former condition.  A urology or surgery referral can be considered to evaluate for a hernia.

If there continues to be a non-revealing diagnosis, a pelvic CT scan can be considered.

You may want to discuss these options with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
