Testicle Pain

I have been experiencing a pain in my right testicle for about 2 years.  I first noticed pain when I ejaculated and had planned on seeing my doctor, but the pain seemed to go away.  However, over the last two years, the pain comes & goes.  During the last month or so, the pain seems to be more constant and I can sometimes feel this pain spreading to my right stomach area (it sometimes makes me a little nautious).
Browsing the web, I read that this could be related to a past abdominal surgery and I had my apendix rupture about eight years ago.  Could this be related?  Also, I have been worried that this could be testicular cancer, but I feel absolutely no lumps on my testicles.  I have noticed that my right testicle ocasionally pulls up tighter than it used to and the pain feels like the testicle is being pulled or tugged on.
Reading your forum, you have stated that this possibly could be corrected with surgery.  Could you elaborate and explain to me what is involved in this surgical procedure.  I will schedule a complete exam with my doctor but I would like to be somewhat prepared.
