Testicle pain post inguinal hernia surgery

My husband had inguinal hernia surgery yesterday on the right side. He now has severe pain at the top of his right testicle and it is retracted up. We are still in the hospital. I need to know what to ask the surgeon so we don't end up like some the other guys in the forum with testicle pain for years after surgery.
