: As the result of an "Abnormal" Stress Test, my employer has scheduled me
to have a Thallium Stress Test.  In 1994, I lost considerable function in
my left kidney due to a large kidney stone.  This has caused an overall
decrease in kidney function.  While being treated for another stone in
1997, a local urogolist was hesitant to use "dye" with his x-rays on me
because of this reduced function. I am wondering if the Thallium test will
cause further damage to my kidneys.
  Thanks

Dear Mike
Thank you for your question.
The ionic contrast agent that is  commonly  used for performing kidney x-rays  is different from thallium.  Thallium is a nuclear isotope which  is preferentially taken up by the heart muscle.  Your thallium stress test should not cause worsening of your kidney function.
