Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Ejaculate is a mixture of sperm and semen. Sperms are produced by the testicles, while seminal fluid is produced by the prostrate. As you underwent TURP, there are chances of minimal bleeding after surgery, especially in the ejaculate as it contains prostrate secretions. There is nothing to worry about this.
Coming to the pain that you are experiencing, it could be due to surgery or due to infection. Take antiinflammatories for a couple of days and see if pain subsides, if not subsiding then a urine analysis would be necessary. Also an indwelling catheter might cause pain at times. Consult your doctor if pain subsides even after removal of catheter.
Best.
Thank you for your response, I will have my cath removed tomorrow! I do have one of other question.
Last night I had a nocturnal emission. Of course my catheter was still in place. There was blood in the semen, I'm assuming from the Transurethral Prostate Inscission surgery I had on Monday. Is this ejaculation going to be harmful? I notice that today I am in a good deal more pain than I had been in up until now.
Hi,
Thanks for writing in. A foley’s catheter is used to drain any blood, pus or any discharge that might have been left over after a surgery to the prostrate. Ideally the catheter can remain inside for 4 weeks, after which there is a chance of acquiring infections.
Coming to the urine bag, it should be emptied as and when it is full, to relieve pressure on the catheter, so it is not pulled out. There is no need of cleaning it, in turn it could cause some contamination. And a leg bag can be used as a bed bag also. So, I would suggest not to change the bag, during laying down.
One thing which can be done is, you can change the bag after a week, by completely replacing it with a new one.
But as you are told that you would be having the catheter for only a week, there is no need to change it.
Take care.
