Two Raised Red Bumps on the penis shaft

by Mat-J, Jul 23, 1998 12:00AM
A week ago, I noticed a raised bump on the shaft of my penis, right near where it meets the scrotum on the underside of my penis.  Recently, one almost exactly the same has come up as well.  They are both redish, raised a little, they almost resemble a bad mosquito bite.  I have only had one sexual experience in my life, Oral sex, she said she was clean and that she had been tested, but she could have been lying.  I am stumped though, cause I have looked through all kinds of STDs that it could be, and I have seen visual examples and it doesn't look like any kind.  They aren't open, and they definitely aren't painless, they hurt as if it was one of those zits that doesn't come up to a head, but just is a big red bump that hurts.  I tried squeezing the first one a while ago, and a puss like substance came out.  I am going to set up an appointement if this does not look like it could be an ingrown hair or something, I have tried to go someplace to get it checked out but I have to go on vacation very soon and was unsuccesful finding someplace to go at the current time.  Hopefully it won't matter that much if I wait a week or so more.  I would greatly appreciate any input you can have on this, I realize that I shouldn't accepted your diagnosis fully since you haven't examined me, but any input at all would be greatly appreciated

Dear Matt,
As you correctly mention, any type of skin rash, lesion, etc. is difficult to evaluate over the internet (without the benefit of having examined you).  However, based on what you describe it sounds like you may have an ingrown hair follicle that may or may not be inflamed/infected.  In general, hair and hair follicles start appearing at that junction between the base of the penis and the scrotum, some of which may be ingrown.  I doubt that your lesions are due to a  serious sexually transmitted disease, although that is always a concern.  Therefore, I recommend that you see a urologist or dermatologist who may assist you in distinguishing these bumps/lesions from a serious problem and may offer an appropriate treatment regimen.
