Since you have irregular menses, the ultrasound scanning mentioned by your doctor is likely to find out the underlying cause. For e.g., it could be due to polycystic ovary disease (multiple cysts in the ovary) giving rise to the irregular menses. The ultrasound not only picks up any disease of the ovary but also can pick up abnormalities of the uterus. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
