Yes, a VCUG should certainly be considered. All children under the age of 7 with a UTI should be evaluated for vesicoureteral reflux, since this can cause kidney damage and scarring.
If reflex is present, surgery or medical options can be considered and should be discussed with your urologist. Medical treatment normally consists of daily antimicrobial therapy.
I would discuss a VCUG with your urologist, or obtain another opinion.
