UTI resistance to antibiotic

I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor. They took a urine test which tested neg but I'm thinking it was because of the antibiotic.

Dr placed me on Septra which was a first for me and I turned red and had hot spots on my body for about 1 1/2 days. Doctor told me to stop the Septra and go back on the Levauin for two more days then come in near the end of the week and will retest but I'm feeling pressure and stinging and don't seem to be emptying my bladder completely. I did feel better urinary wise taking even the one dose of Septra.

I talked to the pharmacist and they said with my resistance to macrodatin (not sure of spelling) cipro and levaquin and allergy to penicillin, ceftin, and now batrium, not sure what they can do for me :o I can take Keflex but I'm reading that is most likely not to effective in treating UTI's. I'm sure fear is not helping my UTI sensations. How big of trouble may I be in concerning this situation? What can they do? Any input would be grateful.

Thank you so much for giving me hope! I don't believe I have ever taken Augmentin so hopefully I can tolerate it and have a cure for my not so frequent UTI's. I really do try NOT to take antiboiotic's unless my situation becomes urgent. Thank you again for taking the time to give me hope and help!!!

Hi,
Drug resistance among UTI causing organism is definitely rising quite fast. There’s a possibility of you being drug resistant to some of the commonly used antibiotics. If currently you are not having any symptoms of UTI, please don’t take any antibiotics further. I’ll suggest using a combination of amoxicillin-clavulanate (Augmentin) instead of keflex. Augmentin has been shown to be really effective in patients who are resistant to several antibiotics. Hence, trying it may help. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
