UTI?

I have experienced allot of pain from urinating over the past few years or so, which is on and off. When the pain comes it is quite excruciating. I went overseas and had a bout for a few days which was like in the past, constant urinating, stinging when urinating, trouble sleeping from pain. I also had the same problem before and on the plane back home.

Anyway, a couple of days later i had a high fever, lower back pain, malaise, head ache, chills. I went to ER and the only thing they  found in all the tests that they had done was bacteria in my urine. Antibiotics relieved the symptoms. Is it possible that these symptoms were caused by a UTI?

Hi,

I think you are correct in thinking that the UTI symptoms have returned. This brings us to the fact that either the therapy needs revision or there is some other cause of the symptoms which is causing recurrent disorders.

The first step is to get a urine culture and sensitivity test to find out the organisms which may be causing the infection. This may lead us to one or more causes of the disorder and thereafter, treat it with a targeted antimicrobial.

The doctor also needs to confirm by examination and tests whether the infection is in the urinary tract passage as there is a possibility of cross infection due to the anatomic arrangement.

As an at-home treatment, increased water-intake, frequent voiding, the avoidance of sugars and sugary foods, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice, taking cranberry supplements, as well as taking vitamin C with the last meal of the day can shorten the time duration of the infection. Avoid coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks containing
citrus juices and caffeine until your infection has cleared.

Please let me know if you may have any other queries.

Regards.
