Infection should be ruled out. This can be done via a blood test, looking for STDs and

If negative, a
digitalDigital rectal exam exam can be considered to look for prostatic enlargement or inflammation. The prostate can be further evaluated with a transrectal ultrasound.
Finally, if infection has been ruled out, a
cystoscopy can be considered to look for anatomical causes of the discomfort - such as a
urethralAcute bilateral obstructive uropathy
Cystitis - noninfectious
Prostate removal
Urethral discharge culture
Urethral stricture stricture or polyp.
