Vaginal sling surgery

Vaginal sling surgery

I had sling vaginal surgery 8-05-09 and I cannot hardly lift my legs up to change clothes, my husband has to help me.  I can actually only lift them a few inchest off the ground.  I came home with a catheter and it's suppose to be taken out Friday.  Is my pain in my legs  and waiste normal? Others that have had this done that I have talked to have never heard of this before.

HI,  I'm not sure what the problem is.  The sling procedure is a common procedure with usually minimal complications.  There are 2 ways to do the sling.  The incisions can be made just above the pubic bone on the lower abdomen (transvaginal approach), or just next to the labia on each side (transobturator approach).  There are possible complications including bleeding or damage to nerves in the area of the surgery.  Usually these complications are temporary and resolve in a few days to weeks.  Talk to your surgeon about the problem and you may need a consultation with a neurologist if the leg problems continue.  Good Luck
