Varicoele

Hi

Basically, about 2 months ago I started having pains in my testicles, but it is mostly in my right testicle. I went to the doctor's and he gave me 10 days of antibiotics which helped a bit and scheduled a scan which I had last Tuesday. Apparently I have Varicoele, and that it's something that won't go away, I went for the results yesterday and the doctor said it isn't serious but I should go an get a surgeons opinion on it and has scheduled another appointment for next month. My question is, even though the varicoele is said to be in my left testicle, does this still mean that I can have the pain in my right testicle aswell? As this is where it is mostly, and I have had a pain in my right testicle a lot for these past few days for some reason.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Varicocele is a mass of enlarged and dilated veins that develops in the spermatic cord within the scrotal sac. A varicocele can develop in one testicle or both, but in about 85% of cases it develops in the left testicle.

How was the ultrasound on your right testicle? Sometimes the pain is also felt to the other testicle but it would still be best to have it evaluated by your doctor. If the discomfort is mild, the condition usually can be managed by wearing an athletic supporter or snug-fitting underwear during strenuous activity or exercise. If the varicocele causes pain or atrophy or if the condition is causing infertility, surgery may be recommended. Most varicoceles can be corrected through a surgical procedure called varicocelectomy.

Take care and keep us posted.
