Vasectomy Reversals

by Patrick__0, Jul 18, 1998 12:00AM

I am a 41-year-old male, enjoying excellent health. Recently, I became engaged to wonderful 36-year-old Pharmacologist. My fiancée and I have discussed our desires to have at least one child. From a previous marriage I have two children, a son-18 and a daughter-14. After my daughter’s birth, my wife and I were content with the two lovely children, which we had been given. Often we had vacillated between alternative birth control measures. Unfortunately, she suffered from serious side effects brought on by oral contraceptives. Therefore, we opted for a vasectomy.
That occurred 12 years ago, and one of my testicles has atrophied. Since my fiancée and I are adamant about beginning a family, I would like to know what are the possibilities of a successful vasectomy reversal, as well as, beginning sperm production.
Lastly, are there new procedures or techniques in practice or under investigation for vasectomy reversals? Could you recommend an Urologist in my local area? What costs should I expect for this type of procedure?
Thank you for your timely insight.

  Sincerely,
  Patrick
