Vericose veins in scrotum

by Dileep_friend, Oct 12, 2008 04:37AM
Myself, 25 year old guy, married since last 1.5 years. We want to conceive a baby, but were not able to do so. On checking it is found that I have a problem of vericise veins in my scrotum (left testis). Please advice whether this can be cured by medicinal treatment or have to undergo surgery.

Also please let me know the reason for such disorder and what should I do to restrict occurance of the same in future. Will it effect my sexual life by any means ?

Hi
Varicocele is a condition where the veins in the spermatic cord in the scrotum become abnormally dilated and tortuous. It is usually diagnosed by clinical examination and by ultrasound of the sctotum.

Most of the varicoceles are primary meaning that the exact cause of varicocele is not known but some theories postulate that it is due to gravity (as a result of the straight posture). Some could be secondary to abnormality of the veins or due to compression of the abdominal vessels by a tumor.

Since it is a surgical abnormality, medical management is usually not effective. You should avoid excessive heat (avoid waterbeds, saunas, hot tubs, etc.).

The presence of a varicocele does not mean surgical correction is necessary. The indications for surgical management are pain, infertility due to semen abnormalities or testicular atrophy. The surgical options are open surgery, laparoscopic or percutaneous embolization.

Usually, varicocele does not interfere with sexual performance.

Your doctor should be able to give you advise based upon your clinical condition as varicocele surgery can have testicular complications and it can recur following surgery.

Take Care
Regards
