a painful swollen lefthand side scrotum

i'm a 35 year old male. i'm separated and recently became sexually active about a month ago. about a six months ago i noticed a tiny painless lump in my left testicle. i never gave it much thought . two days ago i noticed two pimple like structures on the scrotal skin of my left testicle. the sensation was painful with a burning like feeling to it. i told my partner and she told me it was just an in grown hair . the pimple had a white head. i popped it and water plus a little blood came out. on the second day a painful lump developed towards the bottom left hadside of my scrotum. it seems to have swelled on the left side.it's hard and tender. it feels like a hard lump and is painful and sensetive to the touch. the right side is normal. i'd like to note that there is no evidence of chills, fever, or a urethral discharge. i'v made an appointment to see a new doctor but next thursday is the next available date. could you tell me what this may be? i'm very worried and have to wait a week until i get some answers. in the mean time i ordered a chlamydia and ghonorrea test. they'll arrive in two to three business days. in the meantime what should i do? help!

Difficult to say without examination.

Folliculitis, an ingrown hair, epididymitis or other scrotal mass are all possible.

I agree with the tests for STDs, and I will also consider a rectal exam to ensure the prostate isn't infection.

Imaging the scrotum is not unreasonable - and this can detect most causes of scrotal lumps - including cysts, cancer, hydroceles, or varicoceles.

You can discuss these options with your personal physician or in conjunction with a urology evaluation.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
