adhesions..... genetic?

my daughter was born with severe labial adhesions , we have had various hormone and steroid creams and each has seperated the skin, but once use of the cream has finished they have stuck together again (awaiting referal to yet another pediatric gynae as we speak ), i have now got a son who as we have recently noticed has adhesions , his foreskin hardly pulls back and is stuck round the head of his penis. we have a feeling he is going to need to be circumcised. i have heard horror stories of boys having this sorted out by a doctor just pulling the foreskin back and it causing imense pain , i am asuming my son will be referred for a circumcision when i show our health visitor at our appointment next week....... i was also wondering if anybody knows whether adhesions are genetic? seeing as both my son and my daughter has them and we were told by a surgeon she saw at birmingham childrens hospital 6 years ago that it is very rare for a child to be born with adhesions as they usually form after surgery. please if anyone knows we would like to know.... thankyou , sam x

Also don't retract the foreskin, this can cause problems. It needs to happen on it's own, and only the person himself should manipulate the foreskin, not doctors or parents.

In regards to your son: The foreskin may not fully retract in some males until the end of puberty. In some boys this age is 20+ years. If it still does not retract after the end of puberty, then steroid creams can be prescribed. Circumcision is NOT the recommended treatment.
Adhesions are normal in childhood and at any age before puberty, the purpose is to protect the penis.

Hi, I was about 6 to 7 years old before I was able to retract my foreskin part ways.
Between the ages of 8 to 10, I tried to retract the skin more when it eventually gave way and slid past the corona of the glans. For about two weeks after that I experience pain while urinating.
I'm now 44 y/o and do have any problems in regards to my foreskin.

I also have two boys, one biological and one adopted son. My wife and I both decided that there was no need to circumcise the boys.

Our adopted son was not able to retract his foreskin untill the age of 8. Our biological sone was able to do at the age of 3.

I had a younger brother who was circumcised at the age of 9 since he was not able to retract his foreskin at all. I remember that he was not at all happy being circumcised.

There is really no specific age that a boy should be able to retract his foreskin at.

You could get some Penetan cream and make sure that his penis foreskin are moist.
You might also ask your doctor about Cortisoid cream. you could also get your son to try and retract his foreskin while he is the tub with fairly warm water. Your son should be doing this on his own. You can show and tell him what to do. If you force the foreskin back it could create scar tissue on the glans and the corona of the glans.

I don't think that you have to worry about this being habi forming for your son to play with his penis. If you explain to him that these exercises should not be done in public, he most likely won't do it in public. At that young an age you have no worries about masterbation.

I hope that this is of help to you.

we havent been trying to pull his foreskin back , when he gets an erection he complains that it is very sore and hurts ( hence the reason we had a closer look) he is 2 1/2 years old and is concious of it hurting also having had younger brothers i went to mum for advice and she said that really by now it should have separated so that when he has an erection it doesnt hurt him. he tries to pull the skin down the end away from him to stop the adhesions pulling and hurting, surgery was suggested for my daughter 3 years ago but not untill she has hit puberty, so might end up having to use creams untill that is possible. she is 8 and at that age where she is aware she has them and sometimes complains of a stinging so waiting to see someone about that at the mo. thankyou for the link!! sam x

has surgery been done or suggested to help your daughter .all boys are born with adhesions and if you try to pull his foreskin back you will harm his foreskin.you should not be trying to pull his foreskin back.i do not know if adhesions are genetic but they could run in families.here are some links for more information.

Before birth, the foreskin and glans develop as one tissue. The foreskin is firmly attached - really fused - to the glans.
