i'am an adult male 41 years old that has some times a bed wetting problem .also have to go to the bathroom at between 10 and 14 times during the day.at night my wife wakes me up 2 to 3 times a night to have me go . i have wet the bed as a young child till i was 13 0r 14 . and as a young adult i limited my intake of fluids before bed time . the job i have now i must work 11 hour shifts and only get 4 to 6 hours to sleep and work different shifts . i drink about 6 cans of pop a day to keep awake , and i urinate more often than i do at home .it seems that when i get home and relax i wet myself or when i fall asleep i don't know that i have wet the bed or sometimes wake up while wetting the bed . i have had this job for 5 years and the problem continues . also i have have  astma that when i use my nebulizer breathing machine .that uses a caffine solution to help breathing i will wet myself several times during and after the breathing treatment . it seems to make me more inconent like drinking alot of pop during the day. last question is i seem to have more accidents during the night when i am constipated and cramp up . thank you please answer . being a man i do not feel comfortable seeing a male  doctor for this problem . i would rather see a woman doctor ,

Dear Bob,
Thanks for your question. You have done a nice analysis of your problem.  You are right in guessing that excessive pop and caffeine will cause increased frequency of urination.  You should try to reduce the intake of these substances and limit fluid intake in the afternoon.  If this protocol solves the problem, continue with it, but I suspect that there is more going on than can be managed by this and I would recommend that you go to a urologist. You will most likely need certain tests including, urine, blood and maybe ultrasound and urodynamics as well as a physical examination.  Based on the results of the above-mentioned tests, further treatment can be planned.
There are many fine female urologists around the country. Consult your state urological society or the American Urological Association (auanet.org).
Hope this information will be of some help to you.
