bladder pressure at night

I am a 56 year old female.  I have been waking up every 2 hours at night with the feeling of pressure in my bladder.  I have seen a urologist and had a cystoscopy.  Nothing found and no infection in my urine sample. I  was put on Macrodantin 50mg daily.  I have been on this for 6 months without significant change.  For two months Detrol LA was added without any change in my symptoms either.  Now I have been given Enablex 7.5 mg and after a week I am still waking up every 2 hours with the sensation of pressure in my bladder.  I am very frustrated and would appreciate any suggestions.  Thank you  Vicki B

Hello Dr. I hope you can give me some advice, as I do not have medical insurance...... I have a problem with what feels like my bladder, only at night. It seems to ACHE, and I have to get up to urinate many times a night. Even if there is only an ounce of urine in my bladder, it still aches. Once I relieve myself, it eases up and I can fall asleep. Also, while trying to urinate at night, it takes a few minutes for the urine to come out.....This has been going on for 18 months now. I had similar issues about 4 years ago, saw a urologist and had tests done, including a cystoscipy (sorry on the spelling). All the tests came back showing no problems. It went away for a year or two, and then the problem came back. Only now it is worse....In the morning, when I wake up.....The discomfort is so bad that I cant stay in bed. I have to get up, it is too uncomfortable. Then as soon as I get up, it goes away......and does not return until when I go back to sleep. I have no idea what is wrong....... My main concern is possible bladder cancer....Do you have any idea what I might have ???

Thank you very much,
Scott

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
The first thing is to get your blood sugar checked both fasting and two hours after food. The other thing is to restrict your fluid intake post 6 pm in the evening. Another possibility is irritable bowel syndrome or detrusor muscle instability. Sleep apnea, interstitial cystitis,  and hyperparathyroidism too should be looked into.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You must talk to your physician regarding all these possibilities and maybe you would need to consult an urologist too. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
