burning tip of penis

I have had this problem for 14 months, it started with a prostate infection, the infection has cleared but not this burning which is very painful. The only time I get any relief is when I'm in an ambulatory position (laying down) any meds the Doctors prescribe only makes the burning worse. I've had every test to no avail. I'm at the end of my rope with this, I can't work a full day. Any idea on what this could be??? I'm  so depressed, I don't know who to turn to. Any suggestions, help would be appreciated. I'm sure that basic tests for STDs and infection have already been done as part of your workup.  

I would also thoroughly check the prostate, including sending off any prostatic secretions for infection, to ensure this isn't the case.  A transrectal ultrasound can also be considered to evaluate for any abscesses.  

If infection has been ruled out, there are some anatomical abnormalities that can lead to the symptoms - including a urethral stricture or polyp.  A cystoscopy can be considered for further evaluation.

You may want to discuss these options with a urologist.
