My newborn son was circumcized the day after he was born. Shortly after being circumcized, he got an erection and the shaft skin separated from the glans (base of the head of his penis). The doctor who performed the circumcision looked at it and told us that it wouldn't be a problem and that the skin would grow back. He is only two weeks old and I want to be certain that if there can be something done to correct it at this early stage, that I find out about it.
What kind of problems (cosmetic or functional) can this cause my son later in life? Is there anything I should consider that might help or mitigate negative negative effects?

Complications for circumcisions are rare and usually minor. They may include bleeding, infection, cutting the foreskin too short or too long, and improper healing.
In cases such as the one above, the skin would indeed grow back and there should be no deficit in future function. Of course, without seeing the lesion myself, it would be impossible to say for certainly that that would be the case.
If there is continuing concern, you may want to consider a second opinion to help alleviate your conerns.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
