Hi Tony,

There can be a difference in prostatitis and prostatitis due to an infection. I have had numerous stituations where I had prostatitis but no infections were found.
My doctor usually did blood tests and I believe that PSA lvels were a part of the blood tests. Most of the times I was treated according to the symptoms that I had at them time.

In my case there was the problem of not being able to completely empty my bladder because of me having a neurogenic bladder.

In 2003 I was treated with testosterone replacement therapy when my urologist put treatments on hold because of high PSA levels. He then asked me if I had come down with an infection recently. I indeed had had a kidney infection prior to having the PSA levels taken.
Each time that I ended up with prostatitis, I got treated with Cipro.

a digital rectal examination is not allways possible. About two years ago, I ended up with prostate problems again as well as a mild kidney infection. The year prior to that I had been diagnosed with a fistula between my prostate and rectum. To prevent further trauma to the prostate my doctor did not perform the rectal exam. Just blood and urine sample were taken.
Take in mind however that having clean blood and urine does not mean that a patient does not have prostatitis. Some causes of prostatitis still remain unknown.

I sincerely hope that you will start to feel better. I know all to well what it is like.

God bless,

Ron

Hello,
From your symptoms the possibility of prostatitis needs to be ruled out. The typical symptoms of prostatitis are fever, pelvic, testicle, or rectal pain, frequent and painful urination and ejaculation and incomplete emptying of bladder.

To confirm the diagnosis, get a rectal examination and PSA (prostate specific antigen) done from a urologiost.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
