cystoscopy ... questions

by sarahmarieb, Jul 15, 2009 09:36PM
Hi there, my name is Sarah and I'm 22 and have been suffering from a bladder/kidney infection since Dec of 2008.

Ive been on a slu of antibiodics since and currently on Cipro and nothing seems to clear it up completely, it always ends up that i'll be fine for about a week and im back in the doctors office, urine sample and BAM! full out UTI all over again.

I've had a voiding cystogram done to check for reflux and everything checked out to be 100% ok. Now i have a cystoscopy appointment for the 29th and im soo scared and worried :( i felt as if the VC was sooo painfull i never wanted to go thru anything like it again... and now this.. which i hear is so much more painful :(

I guess my main question is how were your experiances with cystoscopys? What helped after to releave the pain?

Hi,

The pain depends a lot on the skill of the urologist but also is different from patient to patient.

I have had numerous cystos with different sensations.

Now a days the use of a flexible scope is used more and more and is far less painfull than the straight scope.

You can also ask your urologist for sedation other than local freezing. If you do so you will need someone to be there with you as you should not travel alone after an aneastetic.

Try to relax as much as possible as this will help with the cystoscopy, being tense will cause more discomfort. I know that this might be hard to relax when you don't know what to expect.

I will have antoher cysto in September and I don't dread the idea.

I hope that all goes well with you. I too have had one UTI after the other. They think that this is due to me having a neurogenic bladder.

All the best,

Ron

I had one done, and I did not feel anything. They did give me a xanax and hydrocone to relax me.

Of course you have to have someone drive you home.

Before having it done, call and ask what there methods are for pain, relaxing you and such.
