faeces in urine

Not sure which section to post this in but my husband has been to the docs and been referred to specialist next week. He has faeces in his urine and has been passing wind through his penis too. He is well in his self but had a urine infection about 6 weeks ago which cleared up. He has had a dull ache very low down(pubis area) he is very worried as we have never heard of this before. What could it be, what may have caused it and how is it treated?
Thank you

Hi,

Your husband's condition does not present as an emergency. However it has to be thoroughly assessed and worked up before any intervention. If this is indeed a fistula , it requires surgical intervention. Your physicians are following protocol in evaluating your husband's case.Visualization of the rectum and urethra will help ascertain the definite cause of his condition.

No he hasn't had any previous surgey. He has only had one urine sample tested as yet. His bowels are fine. The urine infection he had about 6 weeks ago cleared with anti biotics but the lower ab pain stayed. He hasn't lost weight, has a good appetite and takes daily exercise. No other problems. He is type 2 diabetic but this is controlled. He has been diabetic for over 2 years. He has to have cameras to investigate this problem in his rectum and urethra on Tuesday. His own doctor said it coud be a fistula or opening between the bowel or bladder but wouldnt this be dangerous left so long without treatment?

Hi,

Has your husband underwent any previous abdominal surgeries before?

Was a repeat urinalysis done after the first one showed fecal material in the urine?

Urinary tract structural anomalies, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal disorders , a fistula ( an anatomic connection between two hollow organs ) may be differentials.Any other associated symptoms like change in bowel movement or weight loss?

Treatment and management of your husband's case will depend on the underlying cause of the condition. Surgical therapy may be possible if it shows any fistula and other obstructive or structural causes.

Continue to assure your husband and open lines of communication with your physicians.Let us hope for the best.
