fracture of the penis

My brother suffered a penis fracture during sexual intercourse. He had surgery and everything went well for a while but all of a sudden the skin surrounding the penis started to decompose and got infected. Doctors say this happened because of a thrombosis. The infection was treated with antibiotics but the skin is not getting better. Now doctors say there is no choise but amputate. Is there anything else that can be done before considering the amputation of the member?

I'm scared now I was just about to get surgery and now I'm not so sure about it especially if that's going to happen. I'm even more confused on what to do with my fracture.
