Hi I have had prostatitis since about 1989. After having come down with several cases of prostatitis and UTI, I first had a cstoscopy done. After the cystoscopy the urologist suggested a barium study of the bowels and a colonoscopy a few weeks later. Other than some constipation from the Barium, I have had no problems or complications.

To rule out the possibility of Crone's disease being the cause of your prostatitis a Barium study and colonoscopy is performed to rule out any chance of there being communication between the urinary tract and digestive tract. People with Crone's can have problems with thinner stools due to a narrowing of the bowel.

All the best.
