is this normal

by jaylyn2201, Oct 22, 2009 08:57AM
The dr found a kidney stone that was 1.7cm by 1.2cm in my right kidney back in August. I had lithotripsy done on August 26th. On my one month post op ct it showed that I had not passed any of the pieces that were left from the breaking up of the stone. The dr put me on flowmax and pain meds. Now it has been two months since the lithotripsy I still haven't passed anything. I am in pain everyday, is this normal ? does it take this long for the pieces to pass? Last time I talked to my dr he said to give it till the end of December, I can't see going another two months hurting like this.

Hi,
It can take a long time for the pieces to come down. Meanwhile will suggest you to take plenty of fluids and do some regular exercise, particularly those which involve jumping like skipping, playing basketball etc. Such exercises have been known to dislodge the stone pieces from the kidney and pass them down in urine. The amount of fluids which you’re taking should be as much as to produce urine which is colorless. If you’re passing yellow urine, then probably you’re not taking enough fluids. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
