knee replacement surgery lead to catode tube

ok,my mom who was in good health,went to for knee replacment surgury,in the hospital she was given iron supplements after surgury,,she has a rare condition where she has high iron levels and a couple oftimes a years she has to go and have her blood removed ,we had told the doctor of this before surgury,,after the surgury the hospitol inserted a urine drain tube,cathode i believe its called,,before surgury she was taking a water pill,which she had to discontinue during her hospital stay,,we were advised to place her in a health care facility with physical therapy ,now they removed the tube,placed her back on her 1/2 water pill,and measured her flow,and then put her tube back in,,and we are being told we need to take her to a urologist,,my quetion is why did knee surgury in a week's time lead to urology issues, we felt that there be time needed to get walking better again,but this other problem makes it that she can't just come home,they are saying this can be caused by the anesthesia from the operation,we have not yet made a appointment we were told yesterday to do so,although the nursing home told us, not the doctor who is overseeing her condition,,we are seeing her each night,so can the condition be fixed easily or is this complicated

General anesthesia can lead to neurogenic bladder.  This can lead to bladder dysfunction.  In most cases, this resolves after the effect of the anesthesia wears off - but this can vary from patient to patient.  

An urinary infection can also influence bladder function - this should be tested for.  

If the symptoms continue, a referral to a urologist can be made.  In the meantime, a catheter can be placed to ensure she can continue to urinate.
