male catheter for varicocelectomy?

male catheter for varicocelectomy?

I am seeing a urologist for varococelectomy(bilateral), and do not wish to schedule surgery until I have all my Q & A's. Does a varicolecectomy require male urinary catherization, as I will under go general anesthesia? Is catherization necessary in the first place? Any complications?, as the MD sugggested I take off 1 week of work?
thanks

I am not a urologist, so my insight into this question is limited.

If there is general anesthesia involved, a foley catheter will be necessary.

There are always possible complications to every procedure.  Your urologist should explain them for your.  Recurrence of the varicocele, bleeding and infection would be the complications that you should be aware about.

Time off work would depend on the extent of the surgery and the urologist doing the procedure.  A one week healing time is not unreasonable.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
